What is Zonta?

Founded in 1919 in Buffalo, New York, Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women. Over 30,000 individuals are members of more than 1,000 Zonta Clubs in over 65 countries and geographic areas.

How does Zonta work to advance the status of women locally and worldwide? 

Zonta seeks to advance the status of women worldwide by improving the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women at the global and local levels through service and advocacy.

With the generosity and collective action of Zontians and friends around the world, Zonta International has supported projects in 46 countries, provided scholarships and awards to women around the globe, and been a powerful advocate for change in our local and international communities, thereby transforming the world and women's place in it.

Zonta Objectives

Zontians all over the world volunteer their time, talents and support to local and international service projects, as well as scholarship programs aimed at fulfilling Zonta's mission and objectives.

Objectives:

• To improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women at the global and local level through service and advocacy.
• To work for the advancement of understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of executives in business and the professions.
• To promote justice and universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.
• To be united internationally to foster high ethical standards, to implement service programs, and to provide mutual support and fellowship for members who serve their communities, their nations, and the world. Zonta International, its districts and its clubs, including the Zonta Club of Silicon Valley, are nonsectarian and nonpartisan.

Recent Club Meetings & Events

What a sensational summer the Zonta Club of Silicon Valley has had!  

In July, for the 4th consecutive year, our club presented workshops on "Financial Fitness" to rising 8th grade girls at the Tech Trek math and science camp at Stanford!  Kudos to our members Faye, Cathy, Janet (and family), Linda, and Cari for their hard work and enthusiasm in making the "Financial Fitness" program happen! 

In August, our members and guests were treated to fantastic presentations by two up-and-coming leaders in computer science and engineering -- Poornima Vijayashanker, author of the blog femgineer.com and founder of  BizeeBee, and Maria Kazandjieva, PhD student in Stanford's Department of Computer Science, Research Assistant in the Stanford Information Networking Group, and former Co-President of Women in Computer Science. 

Also in August, our new President Cari, VP Faye, and Treasurer Janet met in San Francisco with other Area One club leaders for officer training by new Area One Director Beth.
