About the Zonta Club of Silicon Valley

The Zonta Club of Silicon Valley engages in local service and advocacy projects to advance the status of women, participates in the Zonta International Foundation's scholarship and award programs, and provides learning and leadership opportunities for its members and the community! Zonta is a club for women professionals who are smart, active and want to make a difference in the lives of women and girls locally and internationally.

Our vision is to be mentors for young women in our community and to help empower them in their lives; to support the education and literacy of women; to encourage leadership and development of women; to provide assistance in proving the quality of life for women; to eliminate violence against women locally and internationally; to honor women for their significant contributions and achievements; and to be active participants serving our community. We are committed to improving the lives of women with sincerity, integrity and professionalism.

Local Service Projects

Some local groups with whom we have had service projects, or for whom we have raised funds, in the past few years include:

• the Support Network for Battered Women
• the Career Closet
• the Tech Trek summer camps at Stanford (for girls entering 8th grade)
• the YWCA of Silicon Valley

Other service projects include presenting workshops on "Financial Fitness" to teen girls to increase financial literacy in young women locally.

Scholarship/Award Programs

The Zonta Club of Silicon Valley supports the efforts of Zonta International and the Zonta International Foundation to advance the status of women through educational opportunities, by selecting recipients at the club level of the following annual programs:

• Jane M. Klausman Women in Business scholarship program
• Young Women in Public Affairs award program
  

We are also delighted to have so many recipients of Zonta's annual Amelia Earhart fellowships from our club's local area, including two 2010-2011 Amelia Earhart Fellows and one 2009-2010 Amelia Earhart Fellow from Stanford University's Aeronautics and Astronautics department!

Leadership Opportunities

Membership in Zonta affords many opportunities to develop leadership skills -- such as through managing a local fundraiser, heading up a local service project, or serving as a club, area, district or international director or officer.

Learning Opportunities 

Our club's monthly meetings frequently feature a speaker from the Bay Area on a topic of interest to our members or the community at large.  We also have the opportunity to learn more about how we can advance the status of women at area meetings or district or international conferences.
